LECTURES

Week 1:

The first week of lectures we got briefed on all the projects we will be doing for the semester. We were given an introduction to the Adobe Illustrator software and in using the pen tool with the Bezier game.

Our first task is creating a Vormator character.

Week 2

When making character designs we should keep in mind these 3 tips:

Making the design Iconic, keeping it simple and making it unique.

Shapes can tell a lot about a character's personality. The same goes for colour, contrast, expressions and poses etc.

Using the pen tool on Adobe Illustrator we were able to trace the shapes we will use in making our Vormator character.

Fig. "Chomosuke" a cat character from an anime called Konosuba

I remember watching this anime from a while ago and thought this character was cute and had a funny name. The main inspiration I took from them was their bat wings.
Process:
Fig 1.2 Rough Sketch of character

The idea I'm thinking of is a cute cat character with demon wings and a halo.

Fig 1.3 2nd Attempt

On my 2nd attempt I replaced the halo with devil horns and had my character being set on fire.

REFLECTION

Week 4
Exercise 2: Illustrated typography

My words are "bushes" and "vase".

Fig. First Sketch for "bushes"
For Bushes my idea is to have a large bush with smaller bushes surrounding it and the letters being stuck inside the bush as things usually get stuck.

Fig. First sketch for "vase"

For Vase my idea is to mainly make use of the letters "a" and "s" to look like handles on the illustration of a typical vase.

Digitization process in Adobe Illustrator.

Fig. First Attempt at "bushes"

For my first attempt I made three separate illustrations of the bushes and placed the letters to be stuck inside those bushes. I am liking the concept, but I feel I can take it to the next level with more details.

Fig. Second Attempt at "bushes"

The final design could potentially feature other things you might find in bushes, like twigs for example.
